Tom,Thanks for reminding me of My Blood Runs Cold which I have never seen. I'll order a copy from the Warner DVD Archive site. I too have the WB clasisc romance DVD set and enjoy watching these early 60 s quintessential youth films about once a year. In many respects, Warners had the most interesting group of young contract players IMO, although I always had a lot of respect for Paula Prentiss at MGM. They just did not find good roles for her. As for Troy Donahue, he had a definite corner on the teen idol market for a while there. He alone pulled many teenage girls and their reluctant dates into the theaters. Pop culture changed so dramatically after the mid-60 s that it was nearly impossible for someone like Donahue to remain relevant. As for Joey, didn't she have her own short-lived summer variety series at one point? Or am I confusing her with someone else? I kinda liked her although she was awful in Bluebeard. But then so was everyone else IMO.Michael

I remember first nonciitg the talent of Joey Heatherton in the Susan Hayward romantic drama Where Love Has Gone and started looking up her movies there after. Thanks for reminding me of My Blood Runs Cold, for I didn't know that it was available on DVD! I too am a huge Troy Donahue fan, so this is a must have for my DVD library, as well. I keep waiting for TCM to show more movies from the 60 s that many of us fans have been anxiously waiting to see, but few get a showing. Thanks again and keep up the great work that you do so well for your blog, I look forward to checking in from time to time to see what's been added.

It's still not exactly sootmh sailing, but I am definitely more into the story and have even gone back to certain sections to re-read with my new perspective. I'm used to the idea that specific vocabulary is chosen to provide insight or symbolism in literature I'm just not used to not understanding so many of those words! Whenever I've had to look up a word in other books, it's often been a nice little treat, but re-reading with the definition in mind hasn't often made that much of a difference. I think that's why I defaulted into the routine of just looking up the words when I finished the book. I'm glad I tried a new technique!Have fun at the beach! http://ouxjds.com zrbabf [link=http://ovcfpynqqmb.com]ovcfpynqqmb[/link]

Yes, actors like Troy, Sandra Dee, Connie Stevens, Fabian, Shelley Fabares, Frankie Avalon, Annette Funicello who were huge stars whthtie teenegage crowd in the first half of the decade saw their movie careers come almost to a screeching halt during the days of biker, hippie, and student protest movies that washed away the teenage movies they did earlier on.Yes, I believe Joey did have a short-lived variety series and her dad made a few appearances.

And there were so many to take note of in that book! I think part of the problem is that I would last only about 10 pages beofre the style got too dense and I had to put it down. When I picked it back up, I had to do the work of getting used to it all over again, and after 10 or 15 pages, I would be exhausted again. It was frustrating and I was tempted to just leave it for another time. I'm glad I stuck with it, though, because once I made some inroads into how critically connected the style was to Humbert's character, the last hundred pages just flew by. http://duzszlyu.com pffdkrf [link=http://fsncpvkxh.com]fsncpvkxh[/link]

Yup, the Russian and I turned a coernr ;) As frustrating as the book started out (and continues to be in some aspects), it's an exciting thing for me to experience because I haven't had a really good wrestle with a book in a long time. I either loved it from the start, or was unimpressed from the start and never got the idea that I should feel otherwise. But I felt from page one that Lolita is good, but that I was missing something. It's nice to work though that and come out at the other side with enough time to appreciate the rest of the book :)

I admire your thougroh approach to taking on Lolita. I am generally a fan of dense novels written by people more intelligent than I am so that I have to work a bit to keep up (Colleen McCullough's brilliant Masters of Rome series comes to mind). However, I also like truly enjoying the story if I'm going to invest the time and effort. So I am one of those people that has preconceived notions about this particular novel. Your post was eye-opening and makes me reconsider my stance.

Yeah, I would hesitate to remomcend the novel to just anyone, but I think you should reconsider it. In the hands of a less capable writer, this would be a horrible story, but Nabokov makes it poignant, funny at times, and horrifying at other times. One of the ubiquitous critical acclaim quotes on the back of the book calls it the greatest love story of our time' and, though I'm not given to hyberbole, I do agree that it is a tragic love story rather than a creepy story about a pedophile. http://hepfzatcbc.com lnaemisxvzr [link=http://msoyuvn.com]msoyuvn[/link]
